Jimmy Eat World announced a tour with The Hotelier and Microwave and I knew I had to fly out for the Nashville date at the historic Ryman Auditorium. I’ve seen all three bands several times each now, but this night would be special. I was fortunate enough to have been granted a photo pass for the show for Flippen Music—my first contribution to this great publication.
Microwave opened the show comfortably, playing mainly songs off their latest release, Much Love. The band was humbled to have played the Ryman and graciously thanked the audience for spending their time seeing them.
The Hotelier joked that playing the Ryman was their “peak.” They played a solid mix of songs from Home, Like NoPlace Is There, as well as their latest, Goodness. The band’s songs are filled to the brim with emotion and it translates powerfully live; it’s certain they gained new fans in Nashville.
Jimmy Eat World
Jimmy Eat World has been doing this music thing for 25 years now, easily declaring them as legends in the business. When you’ve been a band for a quarter of a century and have maintained relevancy throughout the whole time, it’s for good reason. Aside from being incredible songwriters, Jimmy Eat World delivers one of the cleanest live performances from a band, with precision and energy, all-the-while making it seem effortless. The band played a near perfect set with a variety of songs from their expansive discography.
